Code Name Wolfgirl 2: Lost Children In America

From the book Codename Wolf Girl 2

A few minutes later, Jason’s phone buzzed again. He picked it up, as he knew who it had to be. Candy wouldn’t call back so quickly. No, this was a caller with another agenda.

It was Mrs. Major. He knew it would come. She had to have seen the news reports.

“Jason!” her voice came across with subdued rage, “I thought we had an agreement with Candy not pulling those stunts again! What is going on down there?”

“I had to let her climb the building,” he explained. “She’ll be fine. We both know she’s good at climbing and doesn’t mind heights.”

“So this explains what I’m watching on the news channel at this very moment?”

“Yes. She found something very important in the case today and feels she can locate the missing children. I decided to let her go and see what she could accomplish.”

“I want you to know,” Major continued. “This call is on conference. I’m in the boardroom with Capt. Saunders and Dr. Klein at this very moment. I think it’s time to bring this absurd project to an end. I was on the phone last night for three hours with the board. They are furious the institute’s name is dragged through this mess. They want Candy back here ASAP. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes, you do, but that might be a bit hard to do with her up on the side of that building.”

“Don’t joke with me. I want you to find a way to get her down from there and return to the institute. Immediately. Do you understand?”

“Understood. But how am I supposed to go up there and tell her to come down?”
